Sewing Shears with Lacquered Handles and Gold Leaf Tamenuri(45-442)
A Striking Design Showcasing the Artisan’s Craftsmanship
Story

These elegant Sewing Shears feature blades crafted in Seki City, Gifu Prefecture—Japan's renowned center of cutlery production. The handles are meticulously lacquered and finished with gold leaf by a traditional lacquer artisan specializing in Buddhist altar fittings in Aichi Prefecture.
Thin sheets of gold leaf are carefully applied one by one using lacquer as an adhesive. Set against the broad lacquered handles, the gold leaf creates a striking focal point that enhances the elegant beauty of the shears.
Over time, the lacquer develops a rich, lustrous depth, while its uniquely smooth texture gradually becomes more familiar and comfortable in your hand.
The handles are available in two distinctive colors, each offering its own unique character and beauty.
Tamenuri (Transparent Layered Lacquer):
Created by applying layers of transparent lacquer over a base of vermilion lacquer, this traditional technique produces a luminous finish with a beautiful sense of depth and clarity.

A Size Designed for Smooth, Effortless Cutting

The overall length has been increased to 230 mm, with a longer blade length for smoother cutting. The blades deliver smooth, consistent cutting performance.
Smooth, Precise Cutting with a Stable Feel
The blades are made from Japanese stainless cutlery steel, offering excellent rust resistance and durability. Lightweight and easy to handle, these shears are comfortable to use even during extended crafting sessions.
